Our Blood Disorders Center features eight world-class treatment programs offering patients deep expertise and advanced therapies for specific conditions. Each hematology program features an authority in his/her area, as well as teams of subspecialists, nurses and social workers with focused training and years of proven experience.
Bone Marrow Failure and Myelodysplastic Syndrome Program
The Bone Marrow Failure and Myelodysplastic Syndrome Program is recognized as one of the nation’s best pediatric treatment and research programs for bone marrow failure, MDS and related conditions. Our patients have access to advanced treatments and diagnosis, including stem cell transplantation, DNA mutation identification through a certified laboratory, and ongoing clinical trials that are investigating new treatments.
Boston Hemophilia Center
The Boston Hemophilia Center is the largest hemophilia treatment center in New England. This federally funded center provides comprehensive medical evaluation and treatment, ongoing medical management, counseling and support, and access to new treatment approaches through clinical research.
Platelet Function Disorders Program
The Platelet Function Disorders Program provides comprehensive care for children and adolescents with platelet function disorders, as well as access to the most recent clinical trials. Under the direction of Alan Michelson, MD, the program is the leading authority on platelet disorder treatment and research.
Rare Anemia and Iron Disorders ProgramRare Anemia and Iron Disorders Program provides
comprehensive medical evaluation and treatment for children with all types of
rare anemias and iron disorders.
Sickle Cell Disease Program
Specialists in the Sickle Cell Disease Program provide
diagnosis, treatment and long-term health management for children and young
adults with all types of sickle cell disease.
The Thalassemia Program offers
expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of thalassemia. Our innovative
approach to patient care reduces the risk of complications and helps patients
lead healthy, active lives during and after treatment.
Thrombosis and Anticoagulation Program
The Thrombosis and Anticoagulation Program provides
comprehensive care and treatment for children with all forms of blood clots and
clotting disorders, most notably thrombosis. With an emphasis on prevention, we
treat children with deep vein thrombosis (DVT, blood clots in the limbs), pulmonary
embolism (blood clot in the lung), sinus venous thrombosis (blood clot in the
brain), and arterial thrombosis.
Vascular Anomalies CenterOur specialists also provide hematology care within the Boston
Children’s Hospital Vascular
Anomalies Center, which brings together physicians and nurses from more
than 17 medical and surgical specialties, all of whom have a clinical focus on
vascular anomalies, to care for children and adults with a range of common and
rare vascular tumors and malformations.
