‘It’s not an even playing field’

An emerging area of research explores the impact of poverty and financial hardship on care and outcomes for children with cancer, WBUR reports. One study finds that a substantial proportion of families experience a large drop in income, as well as trouble meeting basic needs. Another associates poverty with early relapse, which is harder to successfully treat than later relapse.
