Program Details
This is a
three-year twinning project to support the improvement of childhood cancer
treatment and care at Yangon Children’s Hospital (YCH) and in affiliated satellite centers.
Benefits from twinning include sharing of expertise and knowledge, training,
provision of equipment, development of support groups, improvement of data
collection, mentoring programs, and improved outcomes for children with cancer.
YCH is a 550-bed public pediatric teaching hospital in Yangon with a 38-bed
hematology/oncology unit.
In addition, a team of nurses at Dana
Farber/Boston Children's Cancer and Blood Disorders Center developed a
comprehensive nursing education curriculum and conduct regular online training
sessions as well as on-site workshops. The
curriculum focuses on infection control (hand washing), integration of multidisciplinary
care and documentation, chemotherapy safety, and establishment of policies and procedures
for high-risk activities.
